"The Ocean in a Drop: A Realistic Optomist's Perspective on How We Create Change"

A talk by Roz Savage MBE - Friday 12th January 2024, 730pm,                  British School Rooms, Cliff Road, Sherston - Entry £5 on the door.

Following an environmental epiphany, Roz Savage rowed solo across three oceans (the Atlantic, the Pacific and Indian) to raise awareness of our ecological crisis.

Her voyages took her to places - both literally and figuratively - that gave her deep insights into the systemic changes that are needed if we’re going to set course for a more sustainable future.

Join Roz in a conversation that spans the personal, local, national and international, and paints a positive vision of how we can all be the change we want to see in the world.

Sherston Living Churchyard - Volunteer Working Party - Saturday 6th January 2024 from 10am, then the first Saturday of each month.

Holy Cross churchyard has been managed for the benefit of wildlife for 15 years. Bird and plant surveys have been carried out and a grassland mowing regime established in a few meadow areas. We hope that 2024 will bring in more volunteers and enable much more to be done to improve biodiversity and make the churchyard an attractive green space for everyone in the village. A new management plan is nearing completion; this should help to keep our efforts on target and produce visible results over the coming year

The first meeting for volunteers who would like to help make the churchyard a more beautiful and wildlife friendly place will be held on Saturday 6 January 2024 from 10am

Just a quick reminder about our exciting and informative Retrofit Fair THIS Saturday 30th April in Sherston Village Hall from 10-3!

Are you interested in improving the energy efficiency of your home and saving money in this time of rising energy bills and climate change? Please come along to our Retrofit Fair in Sherston Village Hall from 10am-3pm.

Would you like to lower the energy consumption of your home or workplace to reduce it's carbon footprint, reduce use of fossil fuels and save money? Are you worried about doing the wrong thing and feel like you don't know where to start? Then come along to our Retrofit Fair THIS Saturday 30th April from 10-3 in Sherston Village Hall where you will find a range of stalls and speakers to give advice and point you in the right direction.

Retrofitting in relation to construction is the act of fitting new systems designed for high energy efficiency and low energy consumption to buildings previously built without them. This can range from small activities such as fitting energy-efficient light bulbs to installing state of the art heating systems.

We have a fantastic range of speakers and stall holders. The line-up of speakers is as follows:

10:30 Kate Watson, retrofit co-ordinator and assessor from Bristol , talking about the difference between modern and traditional construction ... things to think about with conservation, breathability and ventilation.

11:30/11:45 Jenna Wilcox, retrofit co-ordinator and assessor from the Centre for Sustainable Energy and Futureproofing, talking about grant funding options and home energy audit services provided by 'Futureproof.'

12:30 Bean Beanland from the Heatpump Federation, talking about heat pumps.

2:00 Wolfgang Kuchler, architect from Urbed architects, People Powered Retrofit and Carbon Coop (Projects in Manchester) talking about how we can achieve widespread retrofit across the country.

There will also be stalls from the Centre for Sustainable Energy, Cotswold Energy (heat pumps), architects, Wiltshire Wildlife Trust (low carbon project), The Yellow-Lighted Bookshop, Sustainable Sherston's own Kev Noble with a wealth of practical knowledge and more. There'll also be tea, coffee, cake and sandwiches being served in our very own community orchard.

We warmly invite you to join us on Sunday the 20th March at the wonderful Wild Carrot (GL8 8XW) for coffee, pastries and... electric bikes. Come and chat to us from 10:30am about all things sustainable and then at 11:00am hear and see what Wild Carrot Wheels have to show us about their electric bikes. Last season's bikes are for sale if anyone is interested in purchasing one.  If you'd like to come along please contact us at sustainablesherston@gmail.com.
