Thermal Imaging Camera Hire
You are welcome to hire Sustainable Sherston FLIR C5 thermal imaging camera, purchased in 2022 with a grant from Wiltshire Council Area Board.
The camera is extremely simple to use and makes it easy to "see" cold spots (in blue) from warmer areas (red to yellow). Cold areas may be due to missing insulation above ceilings, draughts through windows and doors and even cold damp patches. Many areas of heat loss can be relatively simply and cheaply fixed with additional insulation or draught excluder etc.
In the pictures here, you can see a thermal image of an un-insulated loft hatch, shown to be blue and cold, losing heat.
This image shows the improvement after 50mm of foam insulation board is added to the back of the loft hatch.
Best results are achieved when there is greatest temperature contrast, when your house is warm, on a cold winters day. Surveys are not possible on summers days when the temperature may be the same inside and out, and they can be less successful in spring and autumn.
The camera is available for hire at just £10 for 2 days, raising funds to allow us to replace the camera if necessary. A typical professional survey costs £200-400 for comparison! The camera is principally for Sherston residents although requests are welcome from our nearby villages and towns. If cost is a bar to you hiring the camera please tell us know as the charge can be waved.
