About us

We are a voluntary community group open to all residents of Sherston and the surrounding villages, determined to do our bit to work towards a sustainable world. See our page on the climate and ecological emergency to see why this is so important and why the time for action is now.

These are our aims:

  1. To work towards a zero carbon Sherston

  2. To minimise waste and work towards a single use plastic free Sherston

  3. To improve biodiversity in the village and surrounding area

We launched in January 2020 with a talk by Professor David Waltham with an overview of climate change and his plan for a carbon diet, based on the carbon budget outlined in the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report ‘Global Warming of 1.5°C. The talk was attended by over 90 local people. We had another two meetings, one with a talk by Dave Knight, a sustainability consultant based in Wootton Bassett, both of which were well attended by enthusiastic villagers.

Since then COVID-19 has prevented us meeting in person, but some of us have continued to meet online and have been making some plans for practical projects in the village including a community orchard, possible village composting scheme, tree planting, a safe cycle route between Sherston and Malmesbury and more. Please see our project groups page for information on our working groups that you can get involved in.

We're booking some interesting online speakers for the coming months, so keep an eye on our events page and sign up for our newsletter by sending us an email.
