Since the start of 2022 Sustainable Sherston has been involved with helpig the local primary school become more sustainable through a number of ongoing projects.

  • A Mid-Counties Co-op Community grant has been awarded to the school to be able to purchase recycling bins and composting bins for food waste. This will really help the school to recycle more and reduce the food waste it has to pay to get rid of. It could also help the nearby allotments by providing free compost!

  • We have been involved with helping the school to get more trees planted on the school grounds. The aim is to provide the children with more shade on the school playing field in years to come, as well as increase the biodiversity of the grounds. The first lot of trees are being funded through Sustainable Sherston itself but we hope to be able to source grants for the school for more trees.

  • We have recently lent the school our new thermal imaging camera to help ascertain where the school building loses its heat and where it is most in need of insulation. The school was very grateful for the loan, and was amazed with the results, which showed that a lot of heat is being lost through the roof. This will really help to concentrate resources where they are needed most. We have also been looking into any possible grants to help fund this insulation needed.

  • We will be helping to maintain the school grounds from April onwards, wherever help is needed.
